In connection with the Memorandum of Cooperation by and between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry through the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in 2019, an online program for mine pollution control will be conducted on February 5-22, 2021.

The said online program is designed to make more people interested in the importance of mine pollution prevention and to increase understanding of basic measures to control mine pollution. Originally, the training course aims to send 15 personnel from DENR-MGB in Japan, however, overseas travel became difficult due to COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, an online program was specifically designed this COVID-19 pandemic to utilize the advantage of online system being practiced. The contents target a wide audience, particularly those DENR agencies concerned with mine pollution, without being restricted to any specific target.

The online program is exclusively available on YouTube platform from February 5-19, 2021. An online open forum with the participants and JOGMEC representatives will be held on February 22, 2021.

A total of 72 technical personnel from MGB Central Office (21 participants), MGB Regional Offices (30 participants), Environmental Management Bureau (6 participants), Forest Management Bureau (6 participants), Biodiversity Management Bureau (5 participants), and Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (5 participants) will participate in the said online program sponsored by JOGMEC this 2021.

In 2019, eight (8) participants from MGB Central and Regional Offices attended the same mine pollution control seminar in Tokyo, Japan.
