Along with the other agencies under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) showed its support of the Biodiversity Management Bureau's (BMB) kickoff event on February 2, 2021, in celebration of World Wetlands Day and the National Wetlands Day 2021.
MGB Acting Director Wilfredo G. Moncano gave his support through a video clip for the event, congratulating BMB and promising MGB's support for the betterment of the Philippine wetlands and caves. Some MGB staff also participated in the virtual kick-off activity.
World Wetlands Day which falls on February 2nd is part of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, also known as the Ramsar Convention, is celebrating its 50 years of existence this 2021. Aside from this event, the International Year of Caves and Karst is also celebrated. The theme of this year's WWD celebration is "Wetlands and Water" – drawing an emphasis on the inseparability when it comes to the management of wetlands and water.
