The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has disclosed the guidelines for the 3rd ASEAN Mineral Awards last February 10, 2021. The Mineral Economics, Information and Publication Division hosted the digital event via Microsoft Teams. Many mining companies interested in participating were in attendance, as well as a noted attendance from Engr. Nonita S. Caguioa Assistant Secretary for Finance, Information Systems and Mining, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Engr. Roland A. De Jesus, MGB Assistant Director and concurrent MGB MIMAROPA Regional Director, and Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng, who is the official ASEAN Mineral Awards representative to the Board of Judges (BOJ). MGB Division Chiefs and key personnel from the technical divisions were also in attendance.

The program officially began after the recorded opening remarks of MGB Director Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano was played on screen. The Guidelines were promptly discussed afterwards, going over all the rules and procedures for the mining company nominees needed to know for their entry qualifications. The Guidelines were submitted by BOJ and adopted by the 20th ASOMM in December 2021 thru a virtual meeting in Singapore. The competition categories for both Metallic and Non-Metallic Minerals are as follows:

  1. Best Practices in Mining *including quarrying
  2. Best Practices in Processing   *including smelter
  3. Best Practices in Distribution   *including Transportation, Handling, Storage

Before the event ended, the platform entertained questions and clarifications. Deadline for the submission of entries will be on February 17, 2021.
