An opposition lawmaker in the Senate has questioned the paltry fine paid by a mining company with links to the administration Liberal Party (LP) despite expected big profits extracted from the area where it operates. “They are paying very less, furthermore there’s no provision that the company will be banned for violating their permit. It’s as if luck is perfectly on their side,” Sen. Nancy Binay said during a Senate environment committee hearing on mining issues.
