Tropical Cyclone "Agaton", the country's first tropical cyclone for the year 2022, brought heavy rains in Eastern Visayas which triggered catastrophic landslides in Leyte, particularly in the City of Baybay and Municipality of Abuyog. This paper presents the post-disaster geohazard assessment of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 8 (MGB-RO8) on disaster-affected areas and actions taken by MGB-RO8 in response to the calamity. In terms of extent of debris and level (devastating) of effects to community, there were five (5) major landslidesin Baybay City (Barangays Kantagnos, Mailhi, Bunga, Kan-Ipa, and Maypatag) and one (1) major landslide in Abuyog (Barangay Pilar). The major landslide events in Baybay City and Abuyog, Leyte may be attributed to certain factors such as geology, topography, soil type, and rainfall conditions. In support and assistance to affected LGUs, the MGB-RO8 conducted geohazard assessment on proposed relocation sites in Baybay City and Abuyog, Leyte. Not only that, MGB-RO8 assessed other municipalities in Eastern Visayas affected by TC Agaton as requested by LGUs. Also, MGB-RO8 conducted rapid geohazard assessment relative to the continuance of Search, Rescue, and Retrieval operations of the Incident Management Team (IMT) in Baybay City, Leyte. MGB-RO8 also performed Geohazard assessment of critical facilities affected by TC Agaton such as: (1)proposed installation of new towers of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Baybay City, Leyte, (2)sinkhole ni Biliran Airport in Naval, Biliran, and (3)reported landslides within the Leyte Industrial Development Estate (LIDE) in Isabel, Leyte. This paper also discusses the gaps observed during operations and assisting stakeholders as well as the corresponding recommendations to address and bridge the gaps.
