The rainy season in the Philippines starts in the month of June which progresses up to November. In the month of July 2022, the majority of Luzon were threatened by southwest monsoon activity. In the case of the Municipality of Banaue in the Province of Ifugao, rainfallinduced landslides (RILs) and flash floods were among the effects of the southwest monsoon rains. Seven (7) barangays in Banaue experienced significant cases of landslide events while among the seven (7) barangays, five (5) including barangays of: Poblacion, Tam-an, Viewpoint, Amganad, and Gohang, were aggravated by flash flood events on top of the RILs. On-site investigation supplemented by the study of drone images, Google Earth Pro imagery, and Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis via ArcMap Software were used to determine that the root causes of the landslides and flash floods include: slope instability, lithology, poor/insufficient drainages, and anthropogenic factors. Findings were used to update the existing geohazard maps of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau and were used as basis for issuance of threat advisories. The results of this study were also used to come up with proper recommendations, such as implementation of structural mitigation, and pre- and post- disaster response procedures, in order to alleviate the effects of the RILs and flash floods for the residents of Banaue, Ifugao.
