The new members of the Board of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees Association (MGBEA) Central Office Chapter took their oath of office last July 11, 2016.
Engr. Leo L. Jasareno, the MGB Director and also a former MGBEA President, administered the oath-taking ceremony. The new Board, composed of 10 officers elected by the association members, will serve a term of two years pursuant to Article VII Section 2b of the MGBEA Constitution.
The new Chapter Executive Board includes: Dr. Maybellyn A. Zepeda (President), Mr. Danilo M. Octaviano (Vice President), Mr. Ernani P. Bernal (Secretary), Ms. Elsa Y. Mula (Treasurer), Mr. Joseph P. Rivera (Auditor), Engr. Rommel Theodore E. Pestano (Public Relations Officer), Ms. Gina Flor F. Resubal (Assistant Secretary), Mr. Ernesto H. Felix (Assistant Treasurer), Mr. Ariel S. Villanueva (Assistant Auditor); and Mr. Jose P. Arzadon Jr. (Assistant Public Relations Officer).
In a brief message during the ceremony, Director Jasareno discussed the importance of having an employee's union as well as the need for it to be united and independent. He also reiterated that the success of an organization depends on the cooperation of the members geared towards the attainment of its vision, mission, and goals.
On the other hand, Dr. Zepeda thanked the MGBEA members for the support and huge turn-out of voters during the MGBEA election. She recalled that despite the challenges and trials that the MGBEA experienced in the last 34 years, it remained steadfast in the pursuit of its dreams and aspirations to become a progressive and model public sector union, founded on the promotion and protection of its members' collective rights through harmonious labor-management relation.
She also mentioned that trust, sincerity and an open communication, not only with each other, but also with the MGB Management, through the MGBEA-MGB Consultative Committee, as well as linkages with other employees' organizations, were some of the key factors why MGBEA was able to sustain its strength as a formidable employees union.
She challenged each MGBEA member to become not just mere officer, member or spectator, but should strive to be a true leader that can inspire, empower and motivate people. She further advised that members should not let their own individual preferences and differences sow disunity; instead should be used to uplift each other's physical, moral and social well-being.
