The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees Association (MGBEA) celebrated its 34th anniversary with a thanksgiving mass at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office (MGB CO) grounds on May 6, 2016.

MGBEA is one of the oldest existing employee's unions within the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It evolved from a group of employees of the MGB CO, before it transformed into a formidable union of national stature today. It was established in 1982 and was called the Central Bureau of Mines and Geosciences Employees Association (CBMGEA). It consisted of nine (9) directors that included Engr. Juan E. Pilac of the Geological Survey Division and Atty. Jesus Mison of the Legal Division, who were the first President and Secretary respectively. Dr. Maybellyn A. Zepeda, Supervising Geologist of the Lands Geological Survey Division is presently the MGBEA President.

The Department of Labor and Employment-Bureau of Labor Relations (DOLE-BLR) recognized MGBEA as a National Union in 2010. The Association now consists of fifteen (15) chapters has achieved several milestones which include its recognition as a legitimate employees union registered and accredited by the DOLE-BLR, Civil Service Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission; and the successful negotiation of four (4) Collective Negotiation Agreements (CNA).

Through the years, MGBEA remains to be a loyal partner of the MGB Management in its efforts to carry out its plans and programs, geared towards the goal of turning the MGB and the mining industry, into one of the country's vital partner in nation building. Being the sole and exclusive representative of all rank and file employees of the MGB, MGBEA continues to find and make initiatives in providing more benefits to its members.
