The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) through its Chorale pays tribute to Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Assistant Secretary for Legal Services Atty. Anselmo C. Abungan by performing on mass and necrology program held at the DENR Social Hall in Quezon City on July 26, 2016 and at Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Malate, Manila on July 29, 2016.
Assistant Secretary Abungan passed away on July 21, 2016 at the age of sixty years old.
ASEC Abungan began his career in the MGB as a Geologist on May 16, 1978 until September 15, 1988. On September 16, 1988, he became a Sr. Research Attorney. After seventeen years in the MGB, he transferred to Department of Justice - Public Attorney's Office as a Public Attorney II on August 1, 1995 and resigned on April 12, 1996. He re-entered in the MGB as Attorney IV on October 12, 1996. During his time in Legal Services, he was one of the major contributors on mining laws, rules & regulations and on devolution of function to Local Government Units. After several years, he was appointed to head the Planning Division as Planning Officer V on August 25, 2000. On March 14, 2015, he was designated as Officer-In-Charge, Regional Director of MGB Regional Office No. IV-A (CALABARZON). After eight months as OIC Regional Director, he was appointed as Regional Director to lead MGB Regional Office No. VIII on November 21, 2005. In March 2010, he became Assistant Secretary for Legal Services in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
