The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Central Office conducted a Risk Reduction Management Seminar/Workshop on December 10-14, 2018 at Brentwood Hotel in Quezon City.
The activity is pursuant to Republic Act No. 10121, otherwise known as the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010,” to support the development of government agencies’ capacities in disaster management at the individual, organizational and institutional levels.
The five-day workshop facilitated by the Philippine Red Cross, served as a venue for the participants to learn about the following topics: Red Cross movement; understanding hazards and disaster; disaster risk reduction management and concept; early warning system; vulnerability and capacity assessment; and risk reduction management and planning.
Areas focusing on emergency response were also discussed, including its concept; Incident Command System (ICS); first aid during disaster; and contingency planning.
On the final day of the training, the attendees participated in an actual simulation drill to demonstrate what they have learned and accomplished during the workshop.
The event was capped off with a graduation and closing ceremony.
