Chemists and Metallurgists of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau's Metallurgical Technology Division (MeTD) recently attended a two-day Training/Workshop on the Measurement of Uncertainty given by Ms. Helen Subradil, consultant from TUV-Rheinland.

The measurement of uncertainty is a parameter associated with the result of a measurement that characterizes the dispersion of the values that could reasonably be attributed to the measure and/or the item being measured. It is a means of determining the quality of the test result and of the testing method performed.

The said Training/Workshop is a requirement for the acquisition of ISO 17025 Certification of the MeTD Chemical Laboratory Services Section.

The Training/Workshop provided the Laboratory Analysts with basic knowledge on the concepts related to measurement results and measurement uncertainty as applied to chemical analysis, measurement uncertainty sources and approaches in the measurement of uncertainty estimation. This is to ensure efficiency and accuracy of analytical tests conducted by the laboratory.

The Training/Workshop was conducted last January 25-26 at the MeTD Conference Room.
