The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Central Office conducted geological and geohazard awareness seminar for its employees.

On December 17, 2018, the MGB conducted a half-day Information, Education and Communication (IEC) seminar for the MGB personnel to improve their abilities in reading and understanding the geological, hydrogeological and geohazard maps.

The facilitators and the respective topics that they discussed were the following: Ms Ranajae N. De Lara on Basic geological mapping and reading geological maps; Ms Marnette B. Puthenpurekal on  Overview of the conduct of groundwater resource assessment and mapping; Mr Julius Vincent P. Umali on Overview of MGB Geohazard Assessment Program, and Geohazard lectures on rain-induced landslides; Mr Jenkin Roy P. Rosas on Geohazard lectures on flood; Mr Nelson Angelo P. Romero on Geohazard map appreciation; and Mr Kristian P. Clavecillas on MGB geohazard website discussion.

The opening remarks were done by Mr Antonio M. Apostol, Jr., Officer-in-Charge, Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD), and closing remarks were done by Dr. Maybellyn A. Zepeda, Supervising Geologist and Chief, General Geology Division of the LGSD.

The event is in line with the celebration of Government Employees Week, pursuant to Proclamation No. 1130 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos, declaring the first week of December as the National Government Employees Week.
