The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) submitted its total proposed budget of PhP1.46 billion for fiscal year 2015 to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) through the Online Submission of Budget Proposal System (OSBPS).

The submission thru the OSBPS is in response to DBM’s instruction for all government agencies to submit all budget requirements in time for the scheduled Technical Budget Hearings.

The total proposed budget of the bureau shall be used for the following:

    • PhP646.81 million for Personal Services;
    • PhP548.46 million for Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses; and
    • PhP266.66 million for Capital Outlay.

Of the proposed amount, the sum of PhP791.68 million is within the ceiling budget, it will be used for the implementation of the Priority Programs of the government.

The priority programs of the government through the bureau includes:

    • Geohazard Assessment Program for disaster risk and reduction and preparedness;
    • Groundwater Resource and Vulnerability Assessment;
    • Coastal hazards assessment in relation to coastal communities as affected by geological factors and sea level rise due to Climate Change;
    • Promotion of responsible mining; and
    • Increasing the government shares from the utilization of mineral resources.

An additional sum of PhP670.26 million is added to the proposal to be used on other projects of the bureau including salaries and allowances of possible additional personnel, anti-illegal mining program, national small scale mining program and mineral reservation program among others.

The proposed budget is approximately 22% higher or PhP270 million more, than the PhP1.19 billion approved budget for 2014.
