Three (3) Senior Engineers (Engineer III) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) successfully earned their Master’s Degree in Development Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) in Tagaytay City.
Engr. Bernardo V. Bitanga, Engr. Roberto D. Caseros, both from the Metallurgical Technology Division (MeTD), and Engr. Manuel M. Binuya from the Mining Tenements Management Division, graduated under the Middle Managers Class (MMC) Batch 12-Banyuhay.
The MMC, a 2-phased curriculum, commenced last April 25, 2016 for Batch 12.
The first phase includes a rigorous five-month Residential Training composed of in-house training, sensing journey in a rural community and Re-Entry Project (ReP) development.
The second phase, on the other hand, was the ReP implementation phase which was undertaken at the respective divisions of MGB for six (6) months, after the end of the Residential Training.
The Re-entry Projects of the MGB Senior Engineers were as follows: Standardization of Monitoring System and Creation of a Scorecard for Operating Mines by Engr. Manuel M. Binuya; MINE IS READY! Commissioning Stage Evaluation of Mineral Processing Plants and Standardized Monitoring of Mineral Processing Permits with Online Status Update by Engr. Roberto D. Caseros; and Design of Modular Custom Mill for Gold Recovery and Cyanide Detoxification in Minahang Bayan Areas by Engr. Bernardo V. Bitanga.
The projects aimed for the development of standardized monitoring systems and centralized gold processing facility catering the small-scale miners. These innovations benefit both the government and the mining sector.
When asked how the trainings in DAP changed themselves as government middle managers, the three scholars quoted “DAP trained us to become better and competent leaders. We now have better judgment and insights on how to deal with difficult situations and how to solve problems more effectively. DAP equipped us with the skills to efficiently manage our Office to maximize its contribution and impact to the society”.
As institutional partners, Engr. Juancho Pablo S. Calvez, MeTD Chief and Engr. Glenn Marcelo C. Noble, Planning, Policy and International Affairs Division Chief attended the scholars’ graduation ceremony last March 24, 2017.
