The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) supports better public service thru the continuous education, competency development and skills improvement of its personnel.

In the seminar on knowledge management for government employees, entitled 7th DAP Kartilya Session: Harnessing Knowledge Productivity held last December 7, the MGB was represented by Ms. Raya Villamor Nieves from the Mineral Economics, Information and Publications Division.  The seminar was held at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) in Pasig City.

The seminar aimed to equip the participants with basic understanding and techniques on how to effectively manage knowledge to increase the quality of public service.

During the session, Dr. Elizabeth Yumul-Manugue, former DAP executive, discussed the topic Harnessing Knowledge Productivity. This included introduction to basic knowledge management (KM), SECI model and understanding the role of KM towards productivity, quality and excellence in the public sector.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arjay A. Jeresano, Medico-Legal Officer, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) shared how the agency is successfully implementing the knowledge management SECI model and how it is maximizing tacit knowledge in the creation of a protocol to follow when crisis strikes in the future.

In her closing remarks, Atty. Elba S. Cruz, PhD, MNSA, President and Chief Executive Officer, DAP, encouraged participants to create, explore and sustain knowledge, as this gears towards a better future. She said that they must take ‘little steps’, ‘plant seeds’ and continuously practice knowledge management to enable them to move forward and for higher chances in technological advancement.

The DAP will also be launching a Master’s Degree in Knowledge Management soon.

Kartilya, as defined by DAP, is a “decalogue of the Katipunan in its evolved intent.” It is a “modern day version of series of session with a varied array of topics, issues and subject matter. Meant to be an avenue of digesting latest issues of interest and concern locally and globally.  The DAP’s KARTILYA sessions hope to provide incisive dissection of issues to generate deeper analytical frame to these templates.”

Kartilya sessions are part of the activities of the DAP Center for Excellence on Public Sector Productivity (COE-PSP) Program.
