The Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) recognizes outstanding levels of dedication, initiative and innovation in the pursuit of entities involved in various aspects of mineral utilization. The scope of the environmental management includes among others, programs/projects/activities being implemented for the environmental protection and enhancement of mining areas, development of the host and neighboring communities, land use improvement, exploration and mining site rehabilitation and final decommissioning.
The PMIEA was officially established under Executive Order No. 399 on February 03, 1997 in compliance with the policy that mineral exploration and mining operation shall be pro-environment and pro-people in sustaining wealth creation and improve quality of life and that exploration and mining operation shall be managed in an environmentally responsible manner to achieve and maintain sustainable conditions at every stage of mineral exploration and mining operations, as well as the establishment of a functional and socially-acceptable post-disturbance land use capability. It is meant to be a fitting recognition of the private minerals sectors' initiatives and exemplary achievements in the protection of the environment.
It is conferred every year to deserving groups and/or companies engaged in mining activities in the country under the following categories: Mineral Exploration, Quarry Operation, Surface Mining Operation, Underground Mining Operation and Mineral Processing. All mining companies whether involved in exploration, active surface or underground operation, quarry operations and mineral processing in the country for at least a year at the time of the selection may qualify for the Award.
Based on the deliberation of the PMIEA Selection Committee (SC) on November 5, 2015, five (5) companies were declared awardees for PMIEA, three (3) companies for PMIEA SC Platinum Achievement Award and six (6) companies for PMIEA SC Titanium Achievement Award.

Relatively, the Mining Forest Program (MFP) was established by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order No. 22, Series of 1989. A National Executive Committee (NEC), created under DENR Special Order (SO) No. 293, Series of 1989, and reconstituted through DENR SO No. 184, Series of 2004, manages the MFP. It has its own criteria and rating system for the selection of the winners for the Best Mining Forest contest, which was categorized into exploration, non-metallic, metallic and mineral processing.
Based on the deliberation of the DENR NEC on November 4, 2015, the following winners are were declared:
The awarding ceremony will be held during the awards night at the 62nd Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference on November 20, 2015 at CAP-John Hay Trade Center and Cultural Center, Camp John Hay, Baguio City.
