More than 20 mining companies were recognized during the recently concluded 65th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) in Baguio City.
Four (4) mining companies were awarded with the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) and 20 companies were given the PMIEA Selection Committee (SC) Achievement Award during the Awards Night and Testimonial Dinner on November 23, 2018 at CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Camp John Hay, Baguio City.
The recipients of this year’s PMIEA are the following:
- Coral Bay Nickel Corporation for Mineral Processing Category
- Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation for Surface Mining Category
- Agata Mining Ventures, Inc. for Surface Mining Category
- SR Metals, Inc. for Surface Mining Category
The PMIEA, pursuant to Executive Order No. 399, series of 1997, recognizes the exemplary practices and commitments of entities involved in underground and surface mining operation, quarry operation, mineral exploration and mineral processing which all contribute towards the State’s mission to safeguard sustainable development by promoting responsible management of environment and natural resources.
The PMIEA Selection Committee (SC) is co-chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the President of Chamber of Mines of the Philippines; its members include the respective secretaries of the following agencies: Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Health and Department of Science and Technology.
Other members of the said Committee are the Presidents of the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association; and Philippine Mining and Exploration Association.
The mining companies which fell short of the requirements for the PMIEA award but exhibited satisfactory performance in environment; safety and health; and social development and management, were conferred with the PMIEASC Achievement Award in the Platinum and Titanium categories.

Relative to the objective of the PMIEA, the Mining Forest Program (MFP), established by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Administrative Order No. 22, series of 1989, thru the National Executive Committee (NEC), selected this year’s Best Mining Forest.
