The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) celebrated its 118th founding anniversary last November 29 with the theme MGB: Working in Partnership with Communities towards Responsible Minerals Development.
In the message delivered by MGB Assistant Director Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng on behalf of Undersecretary and Concurrent Director Mario Luis J. Jacinto, he said that 118 years is a very important milestone where productive accomplishments in the mining industry are a living testament of commitment in being responsible steward of the country’s mineral wealth.
“Despite all the adversities, the MGB has proven to be a steadfast champion in the conservation, administration, development, and proper use of the country’s mineral resources. We have faced up to the challenges and never wavered in demonstrating whatever it takes to be able to pursue our goal of having a mining industry that is pro-people and pro-environment in sustaining wealth creation and improved quality of life,” he added.
A special guest during the occasion was Ms. Earth 2015 Angelia Ong. Ms. Ong won the title of Miss Philippines Earth on May 31, 2015 and later represented the country in the Miss Earth pageant in Vienna, Austria where she was crowned as Miss Earth 2015, on December 15, 2015.
In her message, Ms. Ong thanked everyone for “taking care of the environment because not only do we get our resources from it, but because it also serves as our home.” She promised to continue to be an advocate for environmental preservation and protection.
