Geologists of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau- Central Office (MGB-CO) and Regional Offices (ROs) attended the 2017 Geoscience Workshop held last January 16-21, 2017 at Lima Park Hotel, Malvar, Batangas. The workshop was hosted by the Geosciences Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region.
Engr. Samuel T. Paragas, MGB CALABARZON Regional Director, gave his insightful remarks to formally start the event. He warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized that this workshop was intended to share and improve ideas as well as to shed light on relevant issues and concerns that are in need of discussion.
The five-day workshop included presentations of accomplishments, technical lectures by in-house experts, and review of major Geosciences Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) including (1) Updating of 1:10,000 Scale Geohazard maps; (2) Vulnerability Risk Assessment; (3) Subsidence Hazard Assessment; (4) Groundwater Resource and Vulnerability Assessment; (5) Geologic Quadrangle Mapping; and (6) Mineral Reservation, were reviewed to further heighten them. Future plans and strategies were also discussed during the workshop.
OIC of the Office of the Assistant Director, Engr. Juancho Pablo S. Calvez, formally closed the program with a brief message. He emphasized that the future of geosciences in the country lies in the hands of the young geologists of today.
The host region for the next Geoscience Workshop will be the MGB Regional Office No. IX.
