The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) participated in the 2018 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Statistical Forum held at the Novotel Manila in Quezon City on August 8, 2018.
The MGB was represented by Engr. Edgar Madera from the Mineral Economics, Information and Publications Division (MEIPD), and was joined by the representatives from the member-agencies of various ASEAN Statistical Working Groups, national government agencies, ASEAN-affiliated organizations, media, civil society, the academe and members of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board.
The forum, hosted by the PSA, is in commemoration of the 51st founding anniversary of the ASEAN and carried on with the theme: “A Resilient and Innovative ASEAN Community Statistical System.” It aimed to advocate the vision, objectives and activities of the ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS); present the performance of Philippines compared with the other ASEAN member states; and provide updates on the activities on the ACSS Committee and its various working groups.
The event also served as a venue for the attendees to learn about the following presentations: The Philippines in the ASEAN: How the Philippines Fares vis-à-vis its ASEAN Neighbors; Major Outputs/Activities of the ACSS Committee and its Subcommittees and Working Groups; and an overview of the Philippine Statistical Development Plan (PSDP) 2018-2033 Chapter on Institutional Cooperation.
PSA Undersecretary, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Lisa Grace S. Bersales, Ph. D. welcomed the participants in her opening message, followed by ASEAN Statistics Division, Senior Officer Mr. Puguh R. Irawan. Presenters were PSA Standards Service Assistant National Statistician Candido J. Astrologo, Jr. and PSA International Cooperation Unit Director Benjamin Arsenio Y. Navarro. Closing remarks was done by PSA Censuses and Technical Coordination Office Deputy National Statistician Josie B. Perez.
