The Department of Environment and Natural Resources recently cancelled the Mineral Production Sharing Agreements (MPSA) of Panapino Mining, Inc. (PMI) and GML Corporation (GML) following violations of several mining policies.

The said cancellation of MPSAs were imposed thru the Orders dated June 29, 2015 due to the following grounds:

a.    Failed to renew the Exploration Permit for more than 14 years, in violation of the pertinent provisions of Section C.3 of DMO No. 2010-04;
b.    Failed to pay the occupation fees , in violation of the pertinent provisions of Sections 230 (b) of DENR Administrative Order No. 2010-21; and
c.    Failed with all the reportorial requirements, in violation of the pertinent provisions of Sections 39 and 270 of DAO 2010-21.

The contract area of PMI under MPSA No. 062-97-VIII covers an area of 2,389.50 hectares located in Batag Island, Laoang, Northern Samar while the contract area of GML under MPSA No. 127-98-I covers 1,225.7632 hectares in Bani and Agno, Pangasisnan.
